RE: They're trying to talk me down to a 1/2 ton...

I had a dealer try to do the same. Wanted to sell me a 1500, but was calling it a 3/4 ton. They only had 1500s on the lot and refused to order the truck I wanted. Went across the street and ordered one. (I found out the reason very few 2500s (F250s) are in stock in my area is because buyers of 2500s have very specific desires and will not budge on what they want so it has to be ordered.)

RE: Scenic View - Hocking Hills Area, Logan Ohio

I have not stayed at Scenic View so I can't really comment on how the two compare. The writeup on Happy Hills is under Nelsonville (pg 1008 in the 2008 TL directory). I use campgrounds as a place to spend the night and spend the day elsewhere sight seeing or whatever. But it provided more than I expected and I would go there again. The fall is a nice time of year. I was there too many years ago to count when the dogwoods were in bloom - I will never forget that.

RE: Need an RV park in Elkhart IN

I don't think there are very many in the area but maybe someone else can post others. I've stayed at this one and liked it. Very helpful staff there. Elkhart Campground

RE: Scenic View - Hocking Hills Area, Logan Ohio

I was at Happy Hills a couple of weeks ago - what would you like to know? It has campsites that are in the woods or in a meadow. Has campfire rings at most sites. They played a movie (I am Legend) on 1 night, I think it was Saturday. Has Wifi near the pavillion.

RE: HAs anyone been out camping yet?

I must be in a different world. I can't speak for the federal or state campgrounds, we're mostly private campgrounds and some city & county parks. I'm in the Black Hills now at the "Resort at Palmer's Gulch" also called "KOA at Hill City". It is Sunday morning (6/22/2008) and there are lots of empty spaces. The non-resort type campgrounds have a higher percentage of vacancies - even to the point of negotiating camping fees (i.e. extra person fee is waived). This has been my experience in my travels over the last month. Only Cherry Hill in DC over the Memorial Day weekend with the Rolling thunder was close to capacity and we did see a few empty sites there as well (may have been reserved with a no-show). We're traveling with no reservations and have not had a problem. HOWEVER, I would still get a reservation over the major holiday weekends - I have one for the 4th.

RE: Travel in Michigans UP

We were up at Sault Saint Marie at the Aune-Osbourne campground on 6/17. I'd guess they were at 1/2 to 2/3 full and were more full than most campgrounds we've stayed at in the last month, (except for Memorial day weekend). The Soo Locks campground up there was not full either - don't know about the others. We are traveling without reservations (except for Memorial day and July 4th weekends) and have not had a problem. Some of the lesser used campgrounds are also negotiating fees to get you to stay (I.e. waiving the "extra person" fee). Across the country so far in the last month the lesser used campgrounds seem to be about 20% full and resort types are about 75% full.

RE: Who's driving the furthest this summer?

We're at about 4000 and not quite half way thru our trip.

RE: RV with Fireplace?

I have a fireplace in mine - won't have another. Granted it does put out heat and does look nice, but I can't have it and the furnace on at the same time. I'll go with Bumpyroad's solution next time.

RE: On average, how many miles do you drive per day?

Time is more the factor, like earlier posts 6 to 7 hours is good. It generally equals about 350 and I try hard to stay under 500, but there are always exceptions.

RE: Scenic View - Hocking Hills Area, Logan Ohio

Happy Hills is a reasonably nice campground as well. Also, this is the first time I've seen Hocking Hills mentioned anywhere outside of Ohio and if you check license plates in the parking lot there will only be at most 1 non-Ohio plate. That area is the best kept secret in Ohio. (And I'm not telling where it is.)

RE: What to see in Elkhart?

If you are at the Elkhart Campground the office has a list of plant tours and times as well as other things to see and do (also list of the RV surplus dealers). I recommend the morning plant tour if they have one so you can see stuff being assembled by the workers. The afternoon tour starts just before quitting time. I thought the Monaco tour was good and the guides were quite knowledgable. (We went on the Monaco tour more than once and found it to be tailored somewhat to what the people were interested in.) For all tours the factory had one of every kind of coach they made there availabe for viewing.

RE: Okeechobee Campgrounds (other than KOA)

There's a county park just down the road from the KOA although I've not been to it for a few years. At the time you could camp right next to the lake. They had boat rental, boat ramps, fishing supplies. However, camping on the lake also has draw backs especially when the airboats are running late at night.

RE: RV Friendly Biscuits

If you're after as few ingredients as possible what about using Bisquick and water? I prefer with milk myself and Bisquick can be used to make many one dish meals that are reasonably good.

RE: Motorhome financing

My credit union is offering 6.75% for up to 20 years, but is dependent on credit rating and how much is borrowed.

RE: Well, I'm back...and homeless!

We have a year and a half before we go full time and was wondering the same question. But, I don't think that concern will last long. One reason we're doing it is so we can do all the things we've wanted to do over the years but couldn't.

RE: Corian Countertop

Also, Corian is actually an acrylic plastic. The corian look alikes are not necessarily acrylic, some are polyester and others may be something else.

RE: Corian Countertop

The corian fabricators have a specially colored "glue" to match the corian itself. If you do it yourself the corian must be VERY clean and fit tightly. This is what I've used on SMALL areas but should work for larger ones as well. After you ensure the fit use alchol to clean it, then wipe the surfaces with a solution of baking soda and water. Use spring clamps to hold the two surfaces together and use a very thin superglue and apply at the joint. Capillary action will draw the glue between the two surfaces - allow to dry, do not use accelerator. Even tho Cyanocrylacate glue (superglue) is supposed to dry in minutes, I allow overnight in this case. Whatever glue is not drawn into the seam will sit on the surface and leave a small lump. This can be removed with sandpaper. The grit depends on how much of a lump there is - you need to finish up with a 12,000 grit sandpaper to get a gloss finish. There are kits of the various grades of sandpaper for this.

RE: Towing Mirrors

I've never tried the McKesh, but don't get the mirrors in your mirrormirror site. They will fall off going down the road and they are very hard to adjust and they provide very little view - I speak from experience. I've replaced them with "FIT System" model 3891 MUCH better than the ones you're looking at, but don't know if they are as good as McKeesh.

Towing a ? Jeep

I have access to a 1999 Jeep - just "Jeep" not a Wrangler, not a Cherokee, not anything else, just "Jeep" that I was thinking about towing behind a MH. However, I can't find any info on that year about towing. No owner's manual, the Motorhome magazine website only goes back to 2002. The jeep is a 2 wheel drive (rear wheels) with an inline 6 and appears to have been a government vehicle as it's original owner. From what I've gathered however, without a 4x4 transfer case it will have to be on a trailer or have some sort of pump or driveshaft disconect. Anyone know for sure?

RE: Anyone recognize this backup camera?

I do not recognize it either, but it may be an RF type link to the monitor so no modifications in the cab would have been made. But, if it is an RF link it's kinda worthless without the monitor.
